When Glen Kamara arrived at Rangers in a last-minute transfer deal in January the fans at Ibrox were surely questioning how the former Dundee man would fit into the plans of Steven Gerrard.

The Light Blues already had a host of midfielders among their squad, Steven Davis another winter arrival to bolster the manager’s options, and Kamara was only handed his debut thanks to some injury niggles to the likes of Scott Arfield and Ryan Jack.

The duo joined forgotten Rangers ace Graham Dorrans in the treatment room at Ibrox, the 31-year-old plagued by issues which have limited him to just three appearances this season.

A different sort of player to most of the other midfielders, offering a creative guile and cutting edge that only Scott Arfield has shown this season, his luck has been nothing short of woeful with a serious knee injury and a training ground update has revealed that he was further set back due to a toe issue.

Speaking of the veteran and how much he has frustrated him by being missing, Gerrard told the club’s official Twitter account: “Dorrans had a setback a couple of weeks ago after doing really well, we hope it won’t be too long.

“He will go through a process building up to playing with the team. It’s very difficult at the moment to give a time. It’s very frustrating for us and for him.

“Sometimes you get an unlucky setback, he was on the way from his knee injury and caught one on his toe.”

Despite the problems suffered it sounds as though Dorrans is finally on the final stretch of the comeback trail and the fact Gerrard is hopeful of a return sooner rather than later is great news for everyone at Ibrox.

As stated, Dorrans has qualities very few others can replicate in the current Gers squad and having him back playing would be a huge boost to their chances of success – not to mention a game changer for the likes of Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe up front.

He might have been forgotten by the crowd in Glasgow but the fact of the matter is he is a top quality talent and upon his return will likely have them all on their feet.
