COMMENTARY

With Rangers hot on the heels of Celtic in the hunt for the Scottish Premiership title, it is no surprise to see the Parkhead faithful keeping a close eye on their neighbours, with goalkeeper Allan McGregor sending them into a frenzy on Twitter with his performance against Aberdeen on Wednesday night. The shot stopper might have been beaten twice by The Dons in the 4-2 win but it was a dangerous tackle on Lewis Ferguson which had the Celtic fans incensed, McGregor planting his foot high on the midfielder’s shin with a straight leg as he rushed out to claim a 50/50 ball. Only McGregor himself will know whether it was intentional or not but the Bhoys seem certain there was malice in his actions and have slaughtered him for what they deem to be a potential leg breaker. It did not look good at the time and it does not get any better when you watch it on a replay. Having their rivals’ star man sent off or subsequently banned would be a massive boost for Celtic in the race at the top of the table and so you can understand why they are not only furious with the on-field decision but trying to drum up a storm to draw it to the officials’ attention. Will anything come of their vicious criticism? Only time will tell.
