Celtic have been handed a major first team boost as star left back Kieran Tierney was pictured returning to first team training alongside his teammates by the Daily Record.

The newspaper snapped photos behind-the-scenes at the Hoops’ training complex and having been ruled out through injury for much of the winter and returning to individual training earlier this week, Tierney was back among the first team squad in what will be a significant boost for Brendan Rodgers.

The manager lost Emilio Izaguirre to injury in midweek against Hibernian and so to have the 21-year-old, who is first choice at Parkhead, will be a welcome sight to the fans, players and staff.

Opinion

Tierney is one of the best players that Celtic have on their books and to have lost him for much of December and all of January was a seriously bitter pill to swallow, although the Bhoys did perform pretty well without him. Having him back now is massive considering the sort of games that are coming up for the club, with Scottish Cup and Europa League outings on the way alongside their regular Premiership action. The sooner he can get back into the starting XI after his lengthy layoff the better for everyone, although he might need a couple of substitute appearances to get back into the swing of things. Fans should not expect to see him starting against St Johnstone or Valencia after his recent return to training, but could come off the bench if need be. After that he should be fighting fit – who fills the void at left back until then remains to be seen.
