Celtic first team coach John Kennedy has said that manager Brendan Rodgers is already planning for next season despite speculation over his future.

The Parkhead chief has quickly been installed as the favourite to succeed recently-sacked Leicester City boss Claude Puel, but Kennedy insists his full focus is on the Hoops.

“There has been nothing said that would suggest Brendan isn’t going to be here,” he told the Mail on Sunday. “Brendan just gets on with his job. I remember the chat at some point last season was that if he got a second treble, an English team would come calling and he’d be gone.

“We’re getting to that point in the season again and these stories will surface in the run-in. From working with him, he’s in a very good place. He’s a terrific manager who will hopefully be successful again this season. His full focus is with Celtic and the way I see it he is preparing for next season, just as he did last year and the year before.”

OPINION

This is the sort of news that every Celtic fan will cherish. There will understandably be real worry in the green and white half of Glasgow about their manager’s future now that Leicester have parted ways with Puel. The Foxes are a very attractive proposition for someone like Rodgers. They have a number of excellent players and have been underperforming of late, meaning that there is scope for him to come in and look like a miracle-worker. He has done unbelievably well since landing in Scotland and obviously cares about Celtic hugely, but he is also ambitious and may feel that he has taken the club as far as he can. He’s won everything there is to win domestically but still can’t get over the hump in Europe. He might consider transforming Leicester’s fortunes a more interesting job at this moment in time. However, it appears that he remains focused on Celtic for now.
