Kris Boyd has slammed Celtic fans following a fiery clash with them during the Hoops’ late 1-0 win over Kilmarnock.

Captain Scott Brown was on hand to provide a late winner for the Bhoys, but the match was marred by veteran striker Boyd getting hit by a coin in the warm up.

The 36-year-old was unhurt, but did take to Instagram on Sunday evening to voice his anger at the Hoops’ faithful.

He said on his Instagram account: “We’re lead to believe they’re the Greatest Fans in the World!!!

“Wrecking seats, flares and invading the park!

“The shouts and abuse I can handle as a bit of banter even tho if others it would be sectarianism.

“Getting hit with a coin, though, is a step too far.

“Don’t worry, I wasn’t injured but if it doesn’t stop someone will end up with a bad injury.”

OPINION

Boyd has every right to be furious. Thankfully, he wasn’t hurt by that thrown coin on Sunday, but evidently the intention was for him to be. Whoever threw the coin must be identified and punished appropriately because that kind of behaviour cannot be allowed to seep its way back into British football. Obviously, there is a certain amount of passion that goes into supporting any side, and when your team steal a last minute winner it’s understandable that things might get a little bit crazy in the moment, but there are ways of letting that passion manifest itself, and having fans throwing coins and damaging section of a stadium is just unacceptable. It’s a shame because the vast majority of Celtic fans would agree, but a minority of aggressive supporters have now brought into disrepute the reputation of this great club.
