The entire Rangers fanbase will be fretting over whether Jordan Jones will turn out to be a worthwhile signing after witnessing his display against Celtic.

The Gers confirmed via their official website in January that the 24-year-old Kilmarnock winger was Ibrox-bound after signing a pre-contract that will see him join the club in the summer.

However the decision to sign Jones in order to improve Steven Gerrard’s current squad, didn’t look like a smart one on Sunday.

This was the case even though Kris Commons raved about the player while giving his verdict on him ahead of the game, and pointing out that if he could excel against Jeremy Toljan it would be another string to his bow.

“He’s a very good direct player, he is a winger who hugs and tucks to that left-hand side but loves to dip inside and get his shot away, I think he has been very impressive this season, I think the mouthwatering task today for him is coming up against Borussia Dortmund loanee Toljan, I think that is going to be a big test for him,” said Commons ahead of Celtic v Kilmarnock (Sky Sports Main Event, Sunday February 17th 15:40)

“However if he can pass it, it will be another boxed tick for himself and what’s been made of next season just needs to stay with Jordan, I think he’s still got a job to do at Kilmarnock, Steve Clarke handled that superbly and is probably getting more out of him than he did in the previous couple of games.”

While Jones did effectively get the best of Toljan for the first 45 minutes, with the Celtic player struggling no end, that was where all the positives ended for him.

In the second half especially the 24-year-old failed to have any real impact on the match and when did get on the ball, he seemed short of ideas as well as his passing not being up to scratch.

Jones look particularly bad compared to on-loan Celtic winger Timothy Weah as he just looked a class above the Kilmarnock winger and that something Rangers will worry about.

The Gers will want to be toe-to-toe with the Hoops next season and they should be looking at signing players equal to or better than what is currently in Brendan Rodgers’ side.

While Weah is only on loan, it does set a mark for the quality of winger Rangers should be aiming to match, but Jones looked way below his level on Sunday.

Therefore it seems clear that the entire Rangers fanbase will be fretting over Jones’ potential impact as they wouldn’t have been convinced by him on Sunday.
