James McFadden shared that he thought ever Rangers player bar goalkeeper Wes Foderingham were very lucky to avoid suffering a defeat courtesy of St Johnstone on Saturday.

The Sky Sports pundit revealed that he thought St Johnstone had their chances to score against the Gers and that Rangers’ defence were all over the place during the match.

McFadden then added that he believed that the defence had not been good enough all season and Steven Gerrard’s side struggled to score whenever Alfredo Morelos was missing.

“It’s been a huge problem for them as he is so pivotal to everything they do y’know, St Johnstone defended well but had their chances, Rangers bar the performance of Wes Foderingham were very lucky to come away with the draw and when they don’t have Morelos their defence is all over the place and it’s been a problem this season, the defence has not been good enough and when they don’t have Morelos they struggle to score goals,” said McFadden on Sky Sports Main Event (Sunday February 17th, 15:23).

OPINION

Well Foderingham will certainly be buzzing after McFadden’s verdict on the 0-0 draw with St Johnstone but nobody else will be. The Sky Sports pundit clearly thinks the goalkeeper being able to register a clean sheet while the defence in front were all over the shop, was the only reason why the Gers picked up a point. Foderingham has barely featured this season due to being behind Allan McGregor in the pecking order and took his moment to shine in his stride. Gerrard didn’t have McGregor to call upon due to the shot-stopper being suspended but it didn’t seem to make much difference due to his teammate stepping up. Foderingham has no doubt been frustrated all season after being stuck on the bench and made sure not to let his teammates letting him down cost him a clean sheet. With McGregor still set to miss another game as it was a two-match suspension that he was handed, Foderingham will be hoping to impress again in the Gers’ next match.
