OPINION
Aberdeen defender Scott McKenna has been strongly linked with a move to Celtic over the past two windows after establishing himself as one of the best young centre-backs in the SPL. During the January window, he was the subject of strong interest from Stoke City and was close to a £7million deadline-day transfer that eventually collapsed. The Dons mainstay’s performance in his side’s 4-2 defeat to Rangers on Wednesday night was a subject of hot debate, including among many Celtic fans. McKenna and Alfredro Morelos were both shown red cards in the second half after appearing to aim kicks at each other in a challenge. As the two tussled for a loose ball, the defender fell and Morelos lashed out at him, but McKenna was no innocent as he too looked to jab a foot at the Rangers striker as he tumbled to the ground. Referee Bobby Madden decided both deserved to be dismissed. Celtic fans were almost as active on social media in dissecting the controversy as Rangers and Aberdeen followers. The general verdict on the 22-year-old Scotland international is that his performance did not live up to the hype surrounding him, with many Bhoys claiming he is inferior to their own youthful centre-back, Jack Hendry.

Mind people were wanting Celtic to sign Scott McKenna? The guy’s the most overhyped thing in Scottish football at a non contest. Hammer thrower at best.
