Kris Boyd heaped praise on Rangers midfield duo Ryan Jack and Ross McCrorie as he believed they played an important role in the 4-2 win over Aberdeen.

The former Gers forward shared that the two players needed special mentions for their displays on Wednesday as they stopped Aberdeen winning the battle for the ball in the middle of the park.

Boyd also added that he believed due to Jack and McCrorie screening anything that came their way, they forced Aberdeen out wide during the match.

“I need to give special mentions to a couple of players as well and that’s McCrorie and Jack in the middle of the pitch in terms of they screened and they didn’t let anything through, they were the central area of Rangers team and forced Aberdeen wide,” said Boyd on Sky Sports Football (Wednesday February 6th, 22:11).

OPINION

Boyd is spot-on to highlight Jack and McCrorie’s latest display for the Gers as both were excellent just when Steven Gerrard needed them to be. Aberdeen kept pushing forward throughout the game to try and earn themselves at least a point, and if it wasn’t for the excellent defensive work of McCrorie as well as Jack in middle, they probably would have had more success with that goal. While Jack and McCrorie are unlikely to snatch the headlines from Wednesday’s night match due to Gers’ clash with Aberdeen being eventful to say the least, with several flashpoints. However at least Boyd was able to highlight the duo’s display and also Gerrard probably will heap praise on them as he would have noticed how important they were to his side’s latest victory. With McCrorie, 20, and Jack, 26, both still having the best years of their careers ahead of them you feel Gerrard won’t have to worry about the defensive strength of his midfield anytime soon due to the duo.
