Rangers are facing an anxious wait on Friday as Alfredo Morelos is joined by teammate Allan McGregor in being investigated by officials for incidents in the clash with Aberdeen, according to the Scottish Sun.

The newspaper claim on their website that with the disciplinary committee set to hear an appeal for the Colombian’s sending off on Friday, the officials will also look at a flashpoint involving Ibrox mainstay McGregor and the Dons’ Lewis Morgan, with the goalkeeper facing a potential ban if found guilty of a red card offence.

The incident in question saw the shot stopper slide out to claim a loose ball in the box with a straightened leg angled towards Morgan’s shin, the bottom of McGregor’s boot catching him midway up his lower leg, and a decision will be made by the end of the day.

Opinion

McGregor was a lucky boy not to get a telling off from the referee on Wednesday evening but it seems his luck could have run out just days later. His tackle on Morgan, if you can call it that, was dangerous and anywhere else on the pitch would have been a foul and likely a red card. Being a goalkeeper he probably got away with it on the night but that does not mean it is not worthy of retrospective action. It was a potential leg breaker and Morgan was also fortunate not to come away with a serious injury. McGregor is a top quality goalkeeper who might well have been using his nous and experience to get one over the Aberdeen man, but he overstepped the line on this occasion. Hopefully for the Gers the referee saw the incident and took no action, otherwise they could be without their first choice shot stopper for the next couple of games.
