Old Firm rivals Rangers and Celtic are in the hunt to sign Motherwell attacker Jake Hastie, according to the Scottish Sun.

The newspaper claims that Middlesbrough and Hull are also monitoring the 19-year-old, who has been in superb form since returning to Fir Park in January by scoring five goals in seven appearances across all competitions.

Hastie spent the first half of the season on loan with Alloa and it is understood that he is out of contract at the end of the season.

The Sun adds that Motherwell have offered the winger a new three-year deal, but due to the fact he is yet to sign on the dotted line, clubs have sparked their interest in signing him.

Good move for Rangers?

It is always worth Rangers’ time and effort to try and sign young Scottish players from their top-flight rivals.

Hastie has been on fire for Motherwell lately, scoring some very impressive goals, and with the fact that he could be available for next to nothing in the summer, the Gers would surely be onto a winner by signing him.

He is fast, he is direct and he knows how to stick the ball in the back of the net.

Steven Gerrard already has some exciting young players at Ibrox, but there’s no harm in adding another.

Likely to happen?

Hastie appears to be attracting a lot of interest, which is not good news for Rangers as they eye up the Motherwell teenager.

Middlesbrough and Hull could also be tempting for Hastie as they might be seen as a stepping stone for him to join a Premier League club in the future.

It would make a lot more sense for Hastie to stay put at Fir Park for now though and he will more than likely sign a new deal with the Steelmen, ending Rangers’ hopes.
