Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has been left drooling over Wolves’ threat to Manchester United as he predicts a hard fought game when they meet in the FA Cup.

The Molineux outfit overcame a dogged Bristol City side in a narrow 1-0 win to progress to the last eight of the cup competition while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men looked comfortable against a struggling Chelsea side on Monday night.

Having been drawn against each other, Wolves set to play host to the Red Devils, Merson insists they could be the second hardest team for United to face after their fierce rivals Manchester City.

He told the Debate (18/02, 22:00): “Wolves gave Man United a bit of a runaround in the league at Old Trafford, they did give them a bit of a runaround.

“Ole (Gunnar Solskjaer) would have watched them videos and I wouldn’t be surprised if he changed things up, just for this game. He’ll show them respect. That’s a hard, no disrespect to the other teams bar Man City, I think that’s not the best of draws in my opinion.

“I think that’s a hard game, Wolves away.”

Opinion

After impressing in both the Premier League and the FA Cup this season, there will be no team who relishes a trip to Molineux, even giants like Manchester United. The game earlier in the season ended 1-1 but as Merson says, it was not plain sailing by any means for the home side at Old Trafford. There will probably be mixed emotions at Wolves over the draw. On one hand they will be delighted to get the chance to sink their teeth into one of the legendary sides of the competition and to prove their credentials for the trophy. On the other hand they might have wanted a team less in form and less dangerous than Solskjaer’s men, with the likes of Millwall, Brighton and Swansea all still up for the cup. It should be a fascinating clash against two Premier League rivals who have both found their form this season.
