Wolves duo Conor Coady and Matt Doherty have been heralded by Sky Sports pundit Martin Keown for their performance against Bristol City in their sides’ FA Cup win.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s men saw off a spirited performance from the home side at Ashton Gate to seal a 1-0 win, Ivan Cavaleiro netting the winning goal, and progress to the final eight of the competition.

With 16 teams to pick from, regular Sky Sports pundit Keown, writing in his Daily Mail column, managed to pick out players from nine of those with the Wolves defensive duo just one of two pairs of players from a single club, Manchester City’s Ederson and Phil Foden the other.

Coady and Doherty have been mainstays in the Wolves side this season, both having appeared in all 26 of their Premier League matches.

Opinion

The defensive pair are two of the most reliable performers not just in the Molineux squad but the entire of the Premier League and so it should come as no surprise to see them named among Keown’s team of the week for their FA Cup clash. They came up against a Bristol City side who seemed determined to cause an upset against their Premier League visitors to Ashton Gate and Coady and Doherty had to be on top of their games to ensure that they kept the home side at bay. Sitting seventh in the Premier League, these pair, along with the rest of their teammates, but be thinking that they could pull off a FA Cup run, with the club now just one game away from playing at Wembley in the semi-finals. Everyone will have their part to play to make their dreams a reality but Doherty and Coady are among the most influential players at the club right now.
