Adrian Durham blasted over sensitive West Ham fans who responded negatively to a social media poll about their goal against Liverpool.

The talkSPORT host shared that the poll asking about Michail Antonio’s goal in the 1-1 draw with Liverpool on Monday was about the use of VAR rather than it having an anti-Hammers agenda like some supporters must have suggested.

Durham added that nothing should surprise him on Twitter anymore but shared that he was stunned by Hammers fans’ social media activity in response to the poll.

“Nothing should surprise me about twitter, but the amount of over sensitive West Ham fans who didn’t realise this was a poll about VAR, and not anti-WHU, is stunning,” tweeted Durham via his verified Twitter account.

“Some even wanted a poll about Liverpool’s goal, like anyone thought it should’ve stood.

“Mildly amusing, Twitter.”

OPINION

When you consider that Liverpool’s goal against the Hammers on Monday should have been ruled out due to James Milner clearly being offside, it’s easy to see why fans of Manuel Pellegrini’s side would be outraged by the poll above. In fact it’s odd that the poll didn’t ask about Liverpool’s goal rather than the Hammers as surely that was the perfect example to use to state why VAR was needed. This is especially the case when you consider that goal could end up being a difference maker in who wins the Premier League title come the end of the season, as it’s believable that Liverpool could end up being Manchester City to top-spot due to having one more point.  While Durham is right to defend the poll by pointing out it wasn’t meant to be part of any anti-West Ham agenda, it clearly was done to provoke a reaction from Hammers supporters. In fairness it achieved that job as a several Hammers fans tweeted back in response to the degree where Durham felt he had to clarify that the poll wasn’t a dig.
