Tottenham may be tempted to get “big money” this summer for Kieran Trippier amid a growing likelihood of major right-back changes this summer, according to a reliable journalist.

Writing for a Q&A on the Football London site (Sunday, 3.13pm), correspondent Alasdair Gold claimed this could be the final season at Spurs for the England international.

Gold explained that at least one right-back could leave the club this summer and it could be any one of Trippier, Serge Aurier or youngster Kyle Walker-Peters.

OPINION

There was much frustration among Spurs fans when Kyle Walker was sold two summers ago to Manchester City, a bitter pill that was subsequently sweetened by Trippier’s impressive 2017-18 campaign, the best of his career. Would there be the same gnashing of teeth were Tottenham to cash in on Trippier this summer? Probably not. Firstly, the former Burnley man is not quite as dynamic as Walker and, secondly, he has had a mixed campaign in which consistent excellence has eluded him. His energy and commitment is unquestioned, but the final balls and deliveries that are such a crucial facet of Trippier’s game have been up and down in recent months. Indeed, supporters are claiming the club do worse than cash in while he is still in his prime. They could probably get £40million-plus for the full-back this summer but his value is likely to plummet after then, especially as he will blow out 29 candles on his birthday cake in September.
