OPINION

Goals from Davinson Sanchez, Christian Eriksen and Heung-min Son ensured that Tottenham kept up the pace with their title rivals with a win over Leicester City on Sunday afternoon.

The Lilywhites took a 2-0 lead before Jamie Vardy stole the limelight, first seeing his penalty saved by Hugo Lloris before making amends with a close range finish to put the pressure on Spurs.

Son wrapped up the result in added time, the three points ensuring that the north London outfit stay five points behind Liverpool – but what can the fans take away from victory?

This is FutbolĀ has picked out three things learned from the Lilywhites’ victory in front of the home fans at Wembley:

Winks tailor made for deep lying role

As has been the case in recent weeks, young Harry Winks was deployed further back than fans might want to see him against the Foxes but once again he flourished with his new responsibilities.

He might not have the defensive nous like Eric Dier nor the physical presence of the departed Mousa Dembele, but what he does have is great control both on and off the ball.

The manner in which he controlled the game was impressive and the deeper position looks tailor made for the growing talent.

Lloris brimming with confidence

Football is a roller-coaster of emotions and it has been an up and down campaign for Hugo Lloris between the sticks in north London.

However he put in perhaps the best performance of recent years to keep the visitors at bay on Sunday afternoon and he looks back to his very best.

Commanding in the box and with the reflexes of a cat to prevent Leicester scoring, his display was crowned with a penalty save and even the lack of clean sheet will do nothing to dent his delight.

Trippier looks a liability

Despite the result and scoreline it was not all smooth sailing for Spurs, with favourite of Mauricio Pochettino Kieran Trippier struggling to look anywhere near like the defender who stole the hearts of England fans during the World Cup in Russia.

Quite frankly young Harvey Barnes had him on toast time and again at Wembley and he was lucky not to see the Foxes starlet make more of the opportunities he carved for himself, acting as a real liability at the back.

Trippier is a talented player but all his good work seems to come at the other end of the pitch and perhaps he should be moved further up into a wing role to take some responsibility away from him.
