Tottenham aren’t afraid of a loan deal. Season after season they send a plethora of their best and brightest out to learn their trade in the lower leagues or on the continent, and usually, it works to their advantage.

Even the likes of Harry Kane enjoyed spells away from the club during their formative years, and it’s fair to say that he came back a much player for it.

Of the current crop of those away on temporary deals, one of the most intriguing prospects is Cameron Carter-Vickers.

The 7 cap 21-year-old US international is a physically imposing centre-back with all the attributes needed to become a top level talent – but has been rarely seen by the Tottenham faithful.

After a sluggish start to the season he has forced his way into the Swansea City first team in recent weeks, and looks closer to being the player Spurs want him to be than ever before.

That raises a few questions, however. As reported by Football.London, the defender has two years left on his current and will return to Spurs at the end of the season, but what happens after that is anybody’s guess.

You would assume that it will largely depend on what happens with the talent Mauricio Pochettino currently has at his disposal.

The most obvious candidate for a move away is Toby Alderweireld, and Carter-Vickers’ future could be dictated by how Spurs choose to replace him should he leave.

If, in keeping with their recent transfer strategy, they remain stingy and look for internal solutions, then Davinson Sanchez could step up and become the regular first team option, having flitted in and out the side depending on formation and form.

In that instance, Carter-Vickers could be called upon to fulfil a role as deputy – and he’s ready to do so.

After several years bouncing around the lower leagues, the youngster finally deserves his shot at the big time.
