Tottenham are worried that their efforts to land PSG midfielder Adrien Rabiot in the summer will be hijacked by Liverpool, according to the Mirror.

The report states that Spurs were heavily interested in completing a £20million move for the six cap French international during the January window and that he is one of their top targets, but talks between his current club and the player stalled after a family bereavement.

That means that any deal for the 23-year-old will have to be struck in the summer, when the player becomes a free agent, but it is understood that Liverpool, Barcelona, and Arsenal are also interested.

Rabiot has no future at PSG after having refused to sign a new contract with his boyhood side.

Good move for Spurs?

Yes. Rabiot is a top class player who bolster an area of the field that Mauricio Pochettino’s side have shown to be lacking in this season, and is exactly the type of player that could help propel them towards that next level of a serious till challenge.

A price of £20 million would have been a steal for the Frenchman, but given that he will be available as a free agent over the summer when his contract expires, if Spurs can tie up a deal it would be a real coup.

Likely to happen?

Spurs will be seriously concerned by the interest of Liverpool and Barcelona in particular.

The club will know that they cannot compete with those two team financially, and must instead hope that Rabiot’s demands are not too great and that he is tempted by the prospect of becoming part of Pochettino’s exciting project.

That could definitely happen, but when a side like Barca set their mind on a player, nine times out of 10 they get their man.
