Simon Jordan revealed that he no longer believed Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino had to go to Manchester United if an offer emerged.

The former Crystal Palace owner revealed that upon Jose Mourinho leaving Man United he thought Pochettino simply had to leave Spurs to take over the reigns at Old Trafford, but that now he had made a U-turn regarding that stance despite it defying his own logic.

Jordan added that when you consider Spurs’ new stadium and everything that goes with it, there’s a clear journey for Pochettino to embark on with the club and that he is more likely only going to leave if one of the top Spanish clubs to come in for him.

“His benchmark at this time is the Champions League he has said that himself, I’d like to see Tottenham winning something as it adds cache and removes the claptrap that the media have, if they had won the League Cup there would still be saying that’s a tinpot cup and doesn’t really add to anything,” said Jordan on talkSPORT (Thursday February 14th, 16:06).

“My view point is slightly changing when I saw Manchester United remove the arch nemesis of all things light and bright, Jose Mourinho, the prince of darkness ultimately you’ve got Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in place being the good news provider then my actual thoughts were Pochettino has to go Man United as they are in my view as you know, the biggest club in the world.

“Looking at the dynamics of Tottenham with the new stadium and all the things that goes with it, I think there’s a journey this guy can go on, he’s 46, he can go on a little bit further with Tottenham before he has to take that next step, so I get the feeling now it goes against my own conventional wisdom that he won’t go to Manchester United and he’ll wait for one of the Spanish guys and do more at Tottenham specifically and explicitly in the next 24 months.”

OPINION

Spurs fans will certainly be hoping Jordan’s gut feeling on Pochettino is spot-on as 24 more months of the brilliant manager could see the trophy cabinet actually get some silverware to display. The Spurs boss has defied expectations at the club this season in order for the London side to still be in the Premier League title race as well as competing in the Champions League, and deserves all the credit in the world as a result. Jordan clearly was confidently backing, also urging, Pochettino to go to Manchester United previously but recent events appeared to have swayed him. Spurs supporters are already buzzing from witnessing their side defeat Borussia Dortmund 3-0 on Wednesday and hearing Jordan change his mind will only excite them more. Tottenham fans know that holding on to Pochettino as long as possible is key to their team’s success as he is a key figure at the club.
