It’s been an interesting season to date for Tottenham Hotspur left back Danny Rose. He’s had to share first team duties with Ben Davies and he struggled for form at the start of the campaign.

However, after his sublime showing against Leicester City on Sunday, it’s safe to say that the England international is very much back to his best.

He was terrific in Spurs’ 3-1 win over the Foxes at Wembley, locking down Tottenham’s left hand side and preventing the visitors from getting anything going offensively in that area of the pitch.

He got a standing ovation when he was replaced in the second half, and it was richly deserved. He got forward to great effect and, while his end product could still be improved, he was a constant threat to Claude Puel’s team.

Rose and Davies have largely alternated games as starters this term, but it’s imperative that the former keeps his place in the starting line up against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Simply put, Rose would be able to cope far better with the threat of Jadon Sancho than the former Swansea City man. He has the pace to keep up with the electric Englishman, and the defensive nous to (hopefully) keep him in check.

After his performance on Sunday Mauricio Pochettino surely wouldn’t dream of dropping the 28-year-old. However, Rose did tire down the stretch which is a concern heading into Wednesday’s game.

Even if he’s not 100% recovered, though, he still has to be preferred to Davies. If Spurs can get 60 minutes of excellent football out of the left back then it will be worth the risk.

It’s clear for all to see that Rose is now very much back to his best, and he must be allowed to continue his terrific run of form against Dortmund next time out.
