Ray Parlour defended Harry Kane after the 2-0 loss to Chelsea after he was told that there were some Tottenham supporters who doubted the attacker.

The former Arsenal player revealed that he thought the forward had been absolutely brilliant for Spurs as he had carried them at times, before adding that Kane was a player who was important to the club moving forward.

Adrian Durham shared that two Tottenham fans had texted him saying Harry Kane shouldn’t have started against Burnley with one of them claiming that the forward was back to his “sluggish old ways, thinks he is Messi at times and trying to beat people but the ball just bobbles off his knee and his opponent’s knee.”

This prompted Parlour to defend Kane’s talents and share his surprise that there were a section of supporters who would doubt the attacker’s role in the team.

“It’s a little bit unfair, Harry Kane has been absolutely brilliant for Spurs, he is the one who has carried them at times with the goals he has scored, he is probably a great leader in the dressing room area, so a very important player for Spurs,” said the former Arsenal player (talkSPORT, Thursday February 28th 16:13).

“I’m surprised you’re saying that, that Spurs supporters aren’t too sure of Harry Kane as wow I’m amazed that, I mean everyone has their own opinions but I think Harry is such an important player and as a Spurs supporter or anything to do with Spurs you need Harry Kane back to his best.”

OPINION

It will only be a small minority of fans doubting Kane after the loss to Chelsea as he didn’t have the best of nights. However it’s hard to name a Tottenham player who did impress against the Blues, as the whole team seemed to submit a display below the expected standard. While there may be doubts that Kane’s return to Spurs’ first-team was too soon, as it was unexpected for him to start in the 2-1 loss to Burnley, that shouldn’t have people unsure about his talents. The 25-year-old has score 21 goals in 33 outings for Spurs this season and a case can easily be made for why he is the club’s most important player. While Kane’s last two outings may not have been fantastic by his standards, it won’t be long before he is back to his best. It’s understandable that he may need to shake off some rust after being stuck on the sidelines and Spurs fans should be patience as they should be more than aware how good Kane can be.
