COMMENTARY
Some Tottenham fans on Twitter were disappointed with Erik Lamela’s first-half display against Newcastle United on Saturday. One Spurs fan labelled the winger awful while another very harshly claimed that the player needed to be gone in the summer in order to be replaced by someone quicker and better. Given that Lamela isn’t exactly slow, it was very harsh criticism to say the least. The only conclusion you can come to from this fan’s verdict is that they wish the player to be faster on the ball rather than him needing more pace as sometimes you do feel like the winger needlessly waits too long on the ball to act. However while it’s easy to criticise that side of Lamela’s game, his first-half display wasn’t as bad as some of the tweets below dictate. In fact at times the attacker looked like the Spurs player most likely to make a difference as he whizzed all over the pitch and went close to scoring only for the crossbar to deny him. However hopefully the attacker raises his game in the second half, as the two teams did go into the break with the score 0-0.
