Gary Lineker has praised Tottenham for their win over Leicester City, suggesting that the club are “doing what they have to do”.

Spurs ran out 3-1 winners over the Foxes in a pulsating game at Wembley on Sunday afternoon despite the visitors having many of the better chances of the match.

The hosts were also without star men Harry Kane and Dele Alli.

Writing on Twitter after the match, Lineker said: “Well, if @LCFC have to lose to anyone, It’s a lot less painful when it’s @SpursOfficial.

“Tottenham doing what they have to do; hang in there until there stars are back.”

OPINION

It’s a bit of a cliche, but if you’re going to win a title then you have to win ugly. Spurs were probably the second best team on the pitch at Wembley today, but they managed to squeeze out a result against a very decent Leicester side. It’s hard to say whether or not they can last the pace in the title race, but certainly they are putting themselves in the best possible position to do so by eeking out points here and there when they are missing their best players. Alli and Kane will both be back in a relatively short space of time, and that will give Mauricio Pochettino’s side a boost that the rest of his title rivals won’t have. It’s not an ideal scenario, but to have to of the league’s best players coming into a side that are already in wonderful form could be the kind of marginal advantage that makes a huge difference when the beans are counted in May.
