Gary Lineker watched Kieran Trippier score what he called an “appalling” own goal against Chelsea tonight, in a 2-0 loss that puts any aspirations of winning the Premier League to bed once and for all.

After losing to Burnley at the weekend, Tottenham lost again tonight and the loss was compounded when Trippier put through his own net in the 84th minute.

He had the ball and the situation under control but his backpass caught Hugo Lloris rushing out and it rolled past the keeper and into the back of the net.

Lineker wasn’t impressed and he made a claim that Tottenham fans will hate, saying “Might have to wait 15 years for a title win.”

OPINION

It’s been a bad week for Tottenham and it might get even worse as they’ve got to play Arsenal at the weekend. Arsenal have been buoyed by a big 5-1 in against Bournemouth tonight and have cut the Tottenham’s lead down to just four points. If Tottenham lose again at the weekend the gap will be just a point – something that was unthinkable a few weeks back when Mauricio Pochettino was still harbouring thoughts of winning the league. The North London derbies are always tense affairs but this one has now taken on extra significance for the rest of the season. Spurs surely can’t lose out on a top-four space can they? The ironic thing is after winning all their league games when Harry Kane was out, they’ve now lost all of them since he’s been back. Spurs fans will be desperate that their side don’t make it three consecutive defeats on Saturday.
