Spurs legend Osvaldo Ardiles has heaped praise on Tottenham star Harry Winks, after a breakthrough season for the young midfielder.

Winks has made 23 Premier league appearances this season, starting 15 of them, after spending a large chunk of last season injured.

Ardiles responded to a Tottenham fan on Twitter who said Winks was an “outstanding” player now.

The fan was replying to Ardiles who had said that Winks was becoming an “outstanding” player, after the 3-1 win against Leicester at the weekend.

Ardiles said, “Have been more and more impressed with Harry Winks. Learning and learning so quick”.

OPINION

Harry Winks broke through into the senior team in the 16/17 season and we thought that 17/18 was going to be his season. Unfortunately, he spent the second-half of the season out injured and it threatened to derail his career. He didn’t get back in the first-team straight away, but he’s now a Pochettino regular and he looks better and better all the time. The fans love him as “one of our own” and the funny thing is he’s still seen as a youngster despite being 23-years-old. That’s likely as much to do with his injury as anything else and Winks has proved that he’s a star for the long-term at Tottenham. The praise from Ardiles is thoroughly justified and he’s right that he’s learning quickly. It helps that he’s got a fantastic teacher in Mauricio Pochettino, of course. We’re expecting Winks to start tomorrow night against Borussia Dortmund – which will be his fifth Champions League start of the season.
