West Ham United attacker Xande Silva could be sidelined for several weeks in order to have surgery on his hernia, according to Claret and Hugh.

The website – which is a reliable source of news on the Hammers – reports on their website that the club are set to be hit by a fresh injury blow in the shape of the 21-year-old, who has not long returned to fitness after recovering from a hamstring problem.

The £1.8 million ace needs an operation on his hernia, and he could potentially be out for a month to six weeks after that.

OPINION

This shattering blow could be quite a shame for the youngster, as he is considered as one of the brightest young prospects at the club at the moment. He could have made his debut in the Premier League soon but that has now potentially been put to bed after this update, so it is unlikely that we will see the youngster in action any time soon. Many fans were no doubt excited to see what Silva could produce for the first team after blowing everyone away for the under-23 side, however, that is now set to be put on hold for the time being. The Hammers had enough injury problems as it is and now Silva is just another name on a rather long list. It would have been interesting to see how he got on with playing in the first team and to see how well he could have adapted, and it makes you think why Manuel Pellegrini did not give him a chance much sooner.
