Stuart Pearce shared that he thought Tottenham must tell Mauricio Pochettino that they are financially able to take the club to the next level in order to hold onto him.

Alan Brazil asked the former Premier League player whether Pochettino would be at Spurs or Real Madrid next season, and Pearce revealed he found it a difficult question to answer.

Pearce stated that the Spurs manager’s future would all come down to a conversation about what is financially available and that the club have to make one or two promises for him to still be in charge next season.

“It’s a difficult…I think that is all down to a conversation about what is financially available to take Tottenham to the next level and what he actually thinks,” said Pearce on talkSPORT (Monday February 25th, 8:39am).

“If Tottenham can make one or two promises and say listen y’know you’ve brought players through the academy, backed players in the academy, Tottenham when you look at them, you have to go right down the league to see the cost of the first eleven they put out.

“Harry Kane cost nothing, Dele Alli £5million, Trippier £2million, they’ve spent absolutely nothing on the majority of their starting line-up.”

OPINION

Tottenham lose to Burnley 2-1 on Saturday and suddenly Pochettino’s future is once again in jeopardy? That’s what it seems like as far as Brazil and Pearce are concerned. The talkSPORT host brought up the possibility of the Spurs manager not being in charge next season and in doing so unnecessarily threw doubt on the Argentinian’s future. When Jose Mourinho left Manchester United, there was so much chatter about Pochettino leaving to take over the reigns of Old Trafford, but all that talk has faded away since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has excelled in the Manchester United hotseat. In this time Spurs kept racking up results and no one was questioning whether Pochettino was happy at the club. Yet Pearce’s response to Brazil’s question, made it seem like Spurs need to have crunch talks with their manager in order to stop a summer exit. This is an insane suggestion by all accounts as Pochettino looks settled at the club and seems to be enjoying working on a long-term project.
