Journalist Alan Nixon has claimed that Leicester City won’t be going in for Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez.
The Foxes parted ways with manager Claude Puel on Sunday after a heavy defeat to Crystal Palace on Saturday, and Benitez has instantly become one of the favourites for the job.
However, Nixon claimed on his personal Twitter account that Leicester won’t be taking a look at the Magpies boss despite the speculation.
Nixon’s verdict is a huge positive for Newcastle fans who will likely have been fretting over Benitez’s future after Sunday’s Leicester development.
Leicester won’t be going for him at the moment. https://t.co/M7WVQvYLlM

OPINION
This is fantastic news for Newcastle fans, if it’s true. Leicester would be foolish not to at least consider Benitez considering the miracles he’s been performing with the Magpies, and he would surely be tempted considering the constraints he has had to operate under at St James’ Park. Obviously there will be other candidates who the Foxes will look at, from Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers to former Huddersfield Town chief David Wagner. However, there’s no doubt that Benitez would excel at the King Power Stadium. Nixon seems to believe that Leicester won’t go in for Benitez, though, so that’s tremendous news for Newcastle. The club’s priority has to be keeping the Spaniard in charge at all costs, because there’s no one else who could do what the former Liverpool manager is doing on Tyneside. Hopefully he’ll extend his contract and stay at the club for many successful years to come.
