Miguel Almiron is fulfilling a dream by moving to Newcastle United, according to his uncle.

The Paraguayan international could be in line to make his Magpies debut on Monday night against Wolves after having his work permit granted earlier this week.

Speaking to the Chronicle, Almiron’s uncle, Diego, admitted that it was a lifelong dream of the 24-year-old’s to move to England.

He said: “The wait for the transfer was very long – we were all very anxious –  but we had faith that it was going to happen.

“Miguel is very happy to come to Newcastle because he is fulfilling one of his dreams from when he was a boy and playing in one of the best leagues in the world. He is very excited and can’t wait to get started.

“We are all very proud to see him achieve his goal of playing in Europe. It’s all thanks to the sacrifices he made and the hard work he put in and that dedication has always gone hand in hand with his achievements.”

OPINION

Usually the whole spiel about a player completing his ‘dream move’ to club on the other side of the world feels really insincere and manufactured, but in this case, it seems as if Almiron is genuinely over the moon to be at Newcastle. Whether that is because he sees it as a stepping stone to bigger things, or whether that is because he believes that the club are on the up, remains to be seen, but for now Toon fans will just be buzzing to have a player of his quality in the dressing room and raring to go. Almiron’s has been an odd career path, with many people raising their eyebrows when he chose to move to the MLS instead of Europe a couple of years ago, but that patience has paid off, helped him to learn his craft, and will now be put into action when he makes his Premier League bow.
