Man City beat Arsenal 3-1 at the Etihad on Sunday and Sergio Aguero got another Premier League hat-trick, scoring his first in just 46 seconds.

Talking on the Sky Sports live coverage of the game (Sky Sports, Sun, 4pm), Souness heaped praise on the striker.

He said that Aguero is almost impossible to defend against as he’s constantly looking to get out of defenders’ eyelines.

He even excused the third goal, where it looked like Aguero put the ball in the net with his arm.

“It’s not a deliberate handball, he just wants to get any part of his body on the ball,” Souness said.

“What he does better than anyone, all the time he’s looking to get out of your eyeline.

“He’s such a cute player, a devastatingly cute player and that’s the best word to describe to him. He’s such a cute player it’s so hard to keep tabs on him for 90 minutes.”

OPINION

This was Aguero’s tenth Premier League hat-trick, putting him second in the all-time list and just one behind Alan Shearer. You’d put money on him breaking that record before the end of the season. He was majestic yesterday and he’s a player transformed under Pep Guardiola. He’s still scoring at the same phenomenal rate but he works much harder now and puts a defensive shift in too. The Sky Sports pundits pointed out that despite his goal-scoring and the fact that he must be in the top 10 foreign players ever to play in the Premier League, Aguero has never received the accolades that tend to go along with the elite players. Perhaps that’s because his goals are usually in the box, pure poacher goals. But the Man City fans and Pep Guardiola know how important he is to their team, and he proved it again on Sunday.
