Roberto Firmino is adored by a massive section of Liverpool fans for his touch, vision and ability in and around the box. Few players operate better in tight spaces than the Brazilian with the imagination of a sorcerer and the clinicalness of a surgeon. But Firmino left all his best qualities on Merseyside on Monday night as his team drew 1-1 at West Ham as their blip extended into a second game, to leave the title race further up in the air. It was Firmino’s second half distribution that antagonised Liverpool fans on social media rushing into instant judgements on the players and their performances. His first touch was often excellent, but the 27-year-old Brazilian continually kept giving the ball away and moves were breaking down at his feet. Some of the criticism was scathing on Twitter, with supporters pointing out that he is not delivering the goods when it really matters.
