Dean Ashton claimed that some Liverpool fans would be worried about the inconsistent form of Everton ahead of the Merseyside derby.
The former Premier League player suggested that some Reds supporters will be wondering whether the Toffees would spring a surprise and suddenly put in a good performance like they have done at times this season.
Ashton implied this was a plausible scenario as the Toffees players will be up for Sunday’s clash with Liverpool just like the supporters will be.
“That (the form) is probably a worrying thing if you’re a Liverpool fan because they have been inconsistent could they suddenly put in one of the performances they have done this season?” said Ashton on talkSPORT (Thursday February 28th, 19:42).

It’s doubtful Liverpool fans will be worrying about Everton springing a surprise as they will probably be expecting Marco Silva’s side to be a different proposition on Sunday. The Toffees’ form has been generally poor this season as they have regularly put in below-par performances and suffered disappointing results. Yet one of their best displays of the season was arguably in the 1-0 loss to Liverpool at Anfield in November. The Toffees were minutes away from snatching a point before Divock Origi scored at the death. It could be argued that this result dealt the Toffees a blow they struggled to get over, and this will make them more determined to right a wrong on Sunday. However Jurgen Klopp’s side have proven time and time again this season that they can continue to dig out results, and know they have quality to get a win against the Toffees on Sunday. All they need to do is perform to the best of their ability and match the Toffees’ likely intense spirit for the match.
