Things had been going so swimmingly well for Manchester United under Ole-Gunnar Solskjaer. The midweek home Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain has been followed by another iceberg; this time in the shape of injuries to key men Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard. Solskjaer revealed at his media conference on Friday, as quoted by Sky Sports, that the duo “will be out for two to three weeks looking at it now”, with the injuries sustained against PSG. That rules them out of next week’s Premier League showdown against Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday of next week. Wretched news for United’s hopes of not only beating Liverpool but also of overcoming Chelsea in the FA Cup fifth round on Monday. Both players have been in fine fettle of late, with Martial’s wonder goal against Fulham last weekend prove of his capacity for wreaking havoc. He has scored 11 goals this season and his pace and trickery will be sorely missed versus Jurgen Klopp’s side. Liverpool supporters are delighted at the absence of the pair, particularly the more potent Martial.
