OPINION
Liverpool fans were reeling earlier on Monday when the club announced that Joe Gomez is to undergo surgery on the ankle problem that has sidelined him since early December. No Red needs reminding of the immense contribution made by the defender in the first half of the campaign. But Mirror correspondent David Maddock subsequently revealed on his personal Twitter account that fears the 21-year-old may not play again this season are unfounded. Maddock explained Gomez is merely having a “routine operation” and it will not set back his return any further. The journalist went as far as to speculate that the England international could be back playing again in a month.
Gomez merely a routine operation designed to speed up the healing process, so not expected to set his return back any further. No timescale yet until results know, but could be back by (early) March if goes well. #LFC

That possibility has gone down brilliantly with Liverpool fans desperate for one of their club’s outstanding performers of the first half of the season to be back and available for selection. The team were at their most solid this season when Gomez was partnering Virgil van Dijk in central defence.
