Gary Lineker heaped praise on Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson during his side’s 4-1 victory over Newport County in the FA Cup on Saturday.

The Match of the Day host raved about how good the Man City shot-stopper was with the ball at his feet and wondered how his opponents must feel about his passing.

“Never mind his goalkeeping, what a player Ederson is with the ball at his feet. Imagine playing against a keeper who passes it better than you,” tweeted Lineker via his verified Twitter account.

Ederson has featured 36 times across all competitions for Pep Guardiola’s side this season and has kept 16 clean sheets in the process.

OPINION

Ederson is one of the stars of an excellent Man City side and that says it all really. Guardiola’s squad is packed with a lot of world-class talent so to standout must mean you’re a tremendous player. The 25-year-old goalkeeper is a safe pair of hands between the sticks for the Premier League side and just like Lineker suggest, he isn’t half bad with the ball as his feet either. While Lineker raved about Ederson’s display and demonstration of his fancy footwork during the win over Newport County, the player probably was slightly disappointed following the match. The 25-year-old was no doubt targeting a clean sheet when playing the League 2 club and would have been frustrated with himself for conceding in the way that he did. Ederson no doubt will learn from his mistake of being too far off his line, and will no doubt continue to be an important member of Guardiola’s team.
