Mark Lawrenson has predicted Everton to draw 1-1 with Liverpool when the two sides clash at Goodison Park on Sunday.

The BBC pundit shared that he thought the Toffees were unlucky to lose to Liverpool at Anfield in November and suggested the result may have seriously affected their season.

Lawrenson revealed that he just had a sense that things wouldn’t go to plan for Jurgen Klopp and that if the Toffees approach the game thinking they could get at least a point, then he could envision them getting some joy.

“I was at Anfield when Liverpool beat Everton in November as Jordan Pickford’s injury-time error let in Divock Origi for the winner,” wrote Lawrenson in his predictions for BBC Sport.

“Everton had played really well, from front to back. They created some really good chances but lost because of a piece of bad luck, and there is an argument that result has seriously affected their season.

“I wonder if things might even themselves out a bit here, which is why I am going for a draw – I just have a sense that things might not go to plan for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

“It is a difficult game for Liverpool anyway because they are top of the league, going away to their local rivals, and they have got absolutely everything to lose.

“If Everton are gritty, and approach the game thinking they want to take a point at the very least, then I can see them getting some joy.”

OPINION

Liverpool can’t afford to drop points against Everton even if it is set to be a difficult game. The Reds only sit one point clear of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League going into this game, and know that not getting all three points would give their title rivals a chance to move ahead. This could actually play right into Everton’s hands as there should be some nerves around Liverpool at the moment. If the Toffees score an early goal it could rock the Reds and really see them struggle to get anything. The Toffees season has not gone to plan and some fans clearly don’t seem keen on Marco Silva, but if he was to get a win over the club’s fierce rivals and in the process hurt their title bid, he could be hailed a hero. Also Lawrenson’s prediction of the Reds dropping points doesn’t seem as bold as it normally would. The Toffees did cause the Reds problems in November and go into the clash on the back of a morale boosting win over Cardiff City.
