Martin Keown shared his admiration for Manchester City attacker Leroy Sane ahead of his side taking on Newport County in the FA Cup.

The BBC pundit shared that the 23-year-old winger was constantly getting better and better, just like players do under Pep Guardiola, and claimed that Sane had a major part to play this season.

Keown stated that in his opinion if Man City were going to win a trophy this season, they’re still in contention for several, Sane would be an important player for them.

“PFA Young Player of the Year last season, didn’t make the German national team, I can’t believe it and he’s got great pace,” said Keown on BBC One’s Football Focus (Saturday February 16th, 12:58pm).

“He’s just getting better and better as you do under Guardiola and I think if they’re gonna win something, he’s going to play a major part this season.”

OPINION

You can tell that Keown is in awe of Sane’s talents and simply blown away by his potential, as he still can’t believe Sane didn’t go to the World Cup with Germany in the summer. While that was an eyebrow raising decision to say the least by Germany’s national team, most are now over the shock unlike Keown, as it is now February. Sane is clearly a talented player and it is a scary thought that he is constantly improving just like the pundit stated. At the age of 23-years-old the world is his oyster and if he continues to progress and take on board the teaching of Guardiola then who knows how good he can become. Sane’s 2017/18 campaign may have been better in some regards for him, but he does look a much more improved player even if the stats don’t imply that. Sane has scored 11 goals, while assisting 13, in his 31 outings across all season and will surely add to both those tallies before the season.
