Vincent Janssen is “very unlikely” to play for Tottenham between now and the end of the season, according to a reliable journalist.

Writing in a Q&A session for Football London on Sunday (1.15pm), correspondent Alasdair Gold explained the Holland international is not expected to be reinstated into the first team despite being brought back into the fold recently by Mauricio Pochettino.

Gold explained that Janssen is fifth in the centre-forward pecking order behind Harry Kane, Fernando Llorente, Son Heung-Min and Lucas Moura.

OPINION

Janssen’s failure to secure a loan or permanent move in the January window prompted a change of stance from Pochettino, who had previously ruled out the possibility of the Dutchman getting back in his senior squad. But it appears to have changed little in reality for the the man the club paid £18million for in the summer of 2016, and whose value has subsequently plummeted. Janssen lacks the mobility and movement to cause problems for Premier League defences, and it is ridiculous that he is still at the club. Sure, he has suffered injured problems in the last two seasons, but either Tottenham are asking for too much money for him, or the player won’t lower his wage demands. At this rate, he is wasting the best years of his career. With Spurs’ senior forwards in such fine fettle – Llorente has made a big contribution during Kane’s absence while Son Heung-Min is one of the most in-form forwards in Europe – there would need to be a rash of serious injuries for Janssen to even get back in the matchday squad, never mind the starting XI.
