Ian Holloway was blown away by Manchester City midfielder David Silva after witnessing him feature in the 4-1 win over Newport County in the FA Cup on Saturday.

The former Premier League manager admitted that Man City’s clash with Newport was the first time he had been able to see Pep Guardiola’s side live and he wasn’t let down by Silva’s display.

Holloway claimed the 33-year-old attacking midfielder was so comfortable with the ball that it was like he was caressing it and he had never seen anything like that before.

“David Silva was caressing the ball, I’ve never seen anything like that, he must sleep with the ball,” said Holloway on talkSPORT (Saturday February 16th, 20:16).

OPINION

In typical Holloway fashion, his choice of words are unique and his description paints a colourful picture. However what is clear is that the experienced manager was very impressed after watching Silva. It’s hard to not be impressed if it’s your first time watching the attacking midfielder live, as he is a fantastic player. In fact you feel that he will go down in Premier League history one way or another when he calls time on his career due to his displays for Man City. Silva is arguably underrated in some regards as after wowing in a lot of his 378 appearance for the Premier League side, you think it would be a common occurrence that people sing his praises. Then again with Man City have some many world-class talents over the last few seasons, perhaps at times Silva gets wrongly lost in the shuffle. While the attacking midfielder’s performance against Newport wasn’t anywhere near one of his best for the club, he still submitted a great display that helped his side do a professional job against the League 2 outfit.
