Ian Wright reckons that Everton fans need to be patient with manager Marco Silva despite the recent run of catastsrophic form from the team.

The Toffees lost 3-1 to Wolves at the weekend to extend a wretched run and Wright says there are many mistakes being made within the team, namely the defence and the fact that they need a striker who scores goals.

The BBC pundit adds that there is still a lot more work to be done with Everton, as he says that they are very easy to score against – but said that Silva still needs some time to get things going.

“You know that we are talking about a coach who was pursued for two years to get to this point and I know that they brought in a new director of football, so you have to give them time to get it going. Well I don’t think they should change but patience is needed,” he said on BBC 5 Live Sport.

“For me, defensively, there is not enough work being done defensively and defensive organisation sort of stuff. Yes they do need a striker who can score goals, but even if they had a striker who could score goals at the moment, when you look at the individual mistakes and how easy it is to get through them. There seems to be a lot more work to be done.”

OPINION

Ian Wright is spot on in his verdict of Marco Silva at Everton here. He is right – he does need to be given time, as we are only two thirds of the way through the season, and he needs at least a whole campaign to demonstrate that he is good enough to stay on as the club’s manager. At the start of the term, there was no sense of this uneasiness that is potent at the moment, but for some reason, their form as dipped suddenly. The likes of Richarlison – who was a revelation at the beginning – is not even playing well, so that just goes to show just how bad things are at Goodison Park at the moment. However, the fans must be patient with Silva, just as Wright highlighted. Yes, it may be frustrating to see their team suffer a huge slump, but getting rid of him is not the way to solve their ongoing problems.
