Summer upgrade needed for Keane

Another game, another disappointing display from Everton centre-back Michael Keane – but that is really no surprise.

The 26-year-old has been a bit of a mixed bag this season and it is safe to say that his poor performances definitely outweigh the few that are good.

The latest one comes in the shape of the 3-1 defeat to Wolves on Saturday, a game where he thoroughly underwhelmed to the point where it was rather painful to watch – but then again, the whole team were hardly pleasing on the eye.

He gave away a reckless free-kick in the first half which ultimately led to Wolves extending their lead, and it is clear that he caused far too many problems due to the excellence that was Raul Jimenez and Diogo Jota.

A summer upgrade is definitely needed for Keane, as there is only so long that Marco Silva is going to be able to put up with his inconsistent displays.

Anyway, Silva has other centre-backs to call upon if need be – such as Yerry Mina – so his departure would hardly cause waves amongst the fans.

His time as a regular starter is no doubt coming to an end after this match and fingers crossed that this is something that Silva recognises as soon as possible.

The Toffees need a player with sufficient Premier League experience to step into his shoes, as swooping for anybody else would just be a waste of the club’s time.

Either way, it is evident that Keane is just not stepping up to the plate anymore, and it is arguable that this is costing the team vital points this season.

The mainstay – who has played 23 times in all competitions this season – is just not performing well enough, and something needs to be done about this in the summer.
