Everton have been in desperate need of a proper centre forward for so long now that it’s almost become tiring.

Richarlison has really dropped off the pace in recent weeks, and while he shows a lot of promise, Dominic Calvert-Lewin is not ready to lead the line week after week. The less said about Cenk Tosun the better.

The Toffees have spent big in recent years, but they still lack an attacking focal point around which the rest of their creative talents can play around.

The solution to their problems could, however, come from a relatively unlikely source.

As opposed to looking at a striker from a European giant or a fellow Europa League contender, the Blues could pull off a masterstroke by making a move for  Salomon Rondon.

The 71 cap Venezuelan international may be embroiled in a relegation battle with Newcastle United at the moment, but he has shown time and time again that he is of a quality far beyond the level of his current side’s woes.

According to the Northern Echo, Rondon’s parent club, West Brom, would demand a fee of around £16million to sell the striker in the summer, and the Blues must sneak in to steal his services.

The 29-year-old is  classic centre forward, adept at holding up the ball and providing an aerial threat, but also offers a surprisingly versatile option when the ball is played into feet.

He may not be a glamorous signing, or one that will last them a decade, but right now the Toffees need pragmatism, and Rondon could be a brilliant solution.
