Everton are lining up Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa as a potential replacement for current manager Marco Silva, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper reports on their website that the Toffees have been impressed with the work the 63-year-old has done with the Whites this season – despite being investigated for ‘Spygate’ – and they think he has the right attributes to take over if owner Farhad Moshiri decides to sack Silva.

The report adds, however, that Everton could find it difficult to lure him to Goodison Park seeing as Bielsa is likely to guide his team to promotion this year.

It is believed that highly-placed sources at Goodison Park think the eccentric Bielsa, nicknamed EL Loco due to having a colourful career in management, has the credentials to be a genuine contender to replace Silva.

OPINION

Appointing Bielsa is no doubt a very attractive prospect for most clubs – after what he has achieved for the club this season, why wouldn’t they? Bielsa has somehow worked his magic, even when Leeds were hit with so many injuries this season – he brought the best out of the younger players and did not compromise the club’s chances of promotion in the first place. Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola even has admiration for him, so that shows just how respected he is in the game. He would certainly change things around at Everton if he was given the chance to, but as the report says, the likelihood of him leaving Leeds is very slim indeed at the moment. He has no reason to put an end to the hard work he has put in this season, does he? Fans may love the idea of him joining amid their current crisis, but this one is not going to happen.
