Everton are thought to be increasingly hopeful of finally securing a work permit this summer for their on-loan star Henry Onyekuru, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The newspaper claims that there is a positive feeling at Goodison Park that the club’s case for a work permit for the Nigerian international will soon be strong enough to green-light their use of the winger.

The 21-year-old joined Everton in the summer of 2017, but has yet to play a competitive game for the Toffees. Instead, he has enjoyed productive loan spells at Anderlecht and, currently, Galatasaray.

Eligibility issues have plagued his Goodison Park career to date, but it appears as if fans could soon see the young talent in action on Merseyside.

OPINION

This is a fantastic bit of news for Everton. Onyekuru was a huge prospect when the Toffees signed him and he has continued to make strong progress at Anderlecht and Galatasaray. He is the exact sort of player the club could use right now, in fact. He is an exciting winger who can provide a bit of magic, something that is sorely lacking in Marco Silva’s team at present. Hopefully, though, he will be a fixture in the Everton squad from next season onwards. It will be a huge boost to Silva, if he is still in charge, to have someone as talented as Onyekuru at his disposal next campaign. The likes of Theo Walcott, Ademola Lookman and Bernard have largely underwhelmed this term and so there’s a spot in the team there for the taking for Onyekuru once he’s finally eligible. This whole situation has been a bit of a mess for Everton so it will be good for them to finally have it sorted.
