OPINION
There’s been very little to get excited about at Everton this season. Through a combination of stagnation and confusion they have slipped to ninth in the Premier League table, and look for all the world as if they need some kind of seismic shift to freshen things up. While it may not be huge, Marco Silva’s newfound faith in local lad Tom Davies is at least some cause for optimism. The 20-year-old was given the captaincy against Manchester City in midweek and really impressed with his performance, and while the rest of his team looked poor against Watford on Saturday afternoon, he, at least, threatened to show some moments of real quality. In recent weeks he has been unshackled in the centre of the park and his newfound freedom is really starting to pay dividends. The Toffees have been lacking in leadership and battle for much of this campaign, and while he can’t turn the tide on his own, the early signs are that, with Davies at in the armband, they might at least have found a player who would run through walls for the club. The hope will be that at some point in the near future a few of his teammates start to lead by his example.

I love Tom Davies in the Everton midfield. Even when we aren’t playing that well, really like to see how intent he is on trying to get the team forward. He uses his body so well to drive the team up the pitch. For me, he’s so important to the side. We’ve missed him.
