Many Everton fans will no doubt be crying out for the club to sign some new players in the summer transfer window after failing to do so in January.

The recent slump in form definitely merits some new signings too, and one of those signings must come in the shape of Basel centre-back Eray Comert.

According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal are interested in making a summer move for the 21-year-old, while the report also adds that the Toffees have a solid interest and were considering making a £7 million bid for him last month.

With the likes of Kurt Zouma returning to Chelsea when his loan spell expires at the end of the season and the likes of Michael Keane being a bit of a mixed bag, moving for Comert makes complete sense.

Basel are listening to offers of around £5 million for their defender, so when the window opens in the summer, it must be Everton who gets to him first and snaps him up.

The Mail says that Comert has been receiving a lot of praise for his performances this season, which has alerted some clubs from around Europe.

The fact that he has a lot of interest in his services indicates what a quality player he is, and reinforces why Everton should bring him to Goodison Park.

Yerry Mina has hardly lit the stadium alight since his arrival, so signing another centre-back could be what is needed get many of the fans to erupt.

The Swiss has rebuffed offers of a contract extension from Basel twice now, and with his deal expiring at the end of the next campaign, the summer could not be a better time to take advantage of his situation.

The Toffees have a lot of work to do in the next window – and they must begin by getting Comert on the books.
