It is no secret that midfielder Idrissa Gueye is one of Everton’s key players and a pivotal part of their recent success.

That makes it no surprise that Paris Saint-Germain were keen on signing the 29-year-old in the January transfer window, but then again, it is no surprise that the Toffees rebuffed their offers until the window slammed shut.

However, Gueye’s bombshell interview about his failed move to PSG and his desire to quit in the summer indicates that he does not have much of a future a Goodison Park. Why would the club want to keep a player who does not appear loyal to them?

“It is a dream that sadly did not come true. Every player works to join the best teams, to play in matches in the Champions League,” he told French outlet L’Equipe.

“But I was honoured that PSG were interested in me. Now, I know that I am of interest to these types of clubs, I am ready to go to the final level to join a top European club.”

The fact that Gueye is gutted that the switch did not happen will no doubt anger some Everton fans, but the fact that he says that he is “ready” to join a top club in Europe shows that his loyalties clearly lay elsewhere.

If he is selected to play in the remainder of the games left this season, then it is evident that his heart is not going to be set on doing well for the Toffees, so Everton must bite the bullet and sell Gueye in the summer.

Many fans will no doubt be surprised at this prospect, but if a player has made it clear that he wants to move, then there is no point in keeping them against their will.

The £70,000-a-week [Spotrac] star is a lot better off joining a club like PSG, as the money Everton could potentially receive for him would surely go a long way in reinvesting in their squad.
