Leeds United are “not impressed” with the way that the EFL are handling the spygate controversy after a statement was released by the governing body on Friday, according to Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Phil Hay.

The reporter claimed via his personal Twitter account on Friday that while it is “business as usual” at Elland Road, the club are not happy that the EFL have confirmed in a statement that they are set to continue investigating the incident that saw a member of Marcelo Bielsa’s staff caught spying on Derby County’s training.

Bielsa has admitted to spying on all of his opponents since taking charge of the Whites in summer and his side are currently second in the Championship table ahead of their showdown against Middlesbrough on Saturday.

OPINION

You can completely understand why Leeds are not happy with the EFL’s statement. Not only has it been released less than 24 hours before a huge top-of-the-table clash against Middlesbrough, but is has also not really provided any real information. It seems to be meeting after meeting after meeting and that suggests that no one has any clue as to how to react to the whole spygate business. It’s at a point when Leeds fans will end up just begging the EFL to give Bielsa a slap on the wrist or a fine or a touchline ban just to get it all over and done with. Surely the EFL won’t do punished the Whites with anything drastic like a points deduction as that suggests it would have been an easy decision to make. It will be interesting to know when the next EFL statement will be, because surely these so-called investigations can’t take that long.
