Graeme Murty has heaped praise on Matt Polster and Glen Kamara after Rangers’ two newest additions played for the reserves on Wednesday afternoon.

Rangers’ reserves side hammered Greenock Morton 5-0 with Josh McPake bagging a hat-trick and Glenn Middleton helping himself to a brace.

Gareth McAuley and Jon Flanagan also played in the fixture at Auchenhowie, but it was Polster and Kamara who received all the plaudits off Murty after the game.

“They were really, really good in terms of their attitude, their application and their ability as well,” said Murty when asked about Polster and Kamara, as quoted by Rangers’ official website.

“Our young players really benefitted from playing alongside them and they look as though they are going to get fitter and stronger when they get up to match pace with the first team.

“They are going to be really good additions in terms of play, in terms of integration, in terms of character – they were top drawer today.”

OPINION

It remains to be seen how Polster and Kamara will get on in the Rangers first team, but this is definitely an encouraging start by the two new Gers players, even if it was just a reserve game against Morton. Polster spent a lot of 2018 on the sidelines due to injury so he could take quite some time to regain full fitness and be ready for the rigours of the Scottish Premiership. He is super versatile so he could be an important squad player for Steven Gerrard in the near future. Kamara is already tried and tested in Scotland’s top-flight – but is he Rangers standard? The Finland international impressed at Dundee but he will have to work extremely hard to get into Gerrard’s starting line-up, considering the number of central midfielders that are above him in the pecking order. Lassana Coulibaly and Steven Davis are both on loan at Ibrox, so maybe Kamara’s chance will come next season if they both leave.
