Moyes will not get a sniff at Celtic job

|

David Moyes is not in contention to become the next permanent Celtic manager, according to Scottish football expert Peter Martin.

The STV2 host claimed on talkSPORT on Tuesday that the Celtic ship has sailed for Moyes, who has been a managerial target of the Scottish giants in the past.

The Glasgow Evening Times has reported that Brendan Rodgers has left Parkhead in order to succeed Claude Puel at Leicester, and one person who will not be replacing him is the former Everton and Manchester United boss.

“No, David Moyes will not get a sniff at the Celtic job,” Martin told Alan Brazil on Tuesday, as shown on the official talkSPORT Twitter account.

“No disrespect to David, I know him very, very well. He’s got great quality.

“But I just don’t think there’s enough of a sway on that board to get David Moyes anywhere near the Celtic job now. The train doesn’t stop at the station twice.”

Celtic look as though they might be hiring Neil Lennon on an interim basis to replace Rodgers in the Parkhead hotseat. Lennon will more than likely lead the Hoops to win the domestic treble this season, but there is no way that Peter Lawwell should consider offering the ex-Hibs boss the job on a full-time basis. Moyes would be a good shout for Celtic. Everyone knows how well he did at Everton and while he failed at Premier League giants Manchester United, it would be fair to say that it was an impossible job for anyone to replace Sir Alex Ferguson. Moyes has since had mixed spells at Sunderland and West Ham. He led the Black Cats to relegation from the Premier League, but after his exit, another relegation to League One showed that the issues at the Stadium of Light went far deeper than the manager. At West Ham, Moyes did a good job of steadying the ship and led them quite comfortably to top-flight safety. Moyes could do wonders at Celtic Park or he could do an average job. Either way he won’t be a disaster and he won’t let Rangers reclaim top-spot in Scotland.
